Chi Kung
Chi Kung (also spelled Qi Gong) is an aspect of traditional Chinese medicine involving the coordination of different breathing patterns with various physical postures and motions of the body. Qigong is mostly taught for health maintenance purposes, but there are also some who teach it as a therapeutic intervention. Various forms of traditional qigong are also widely taught in conjunction with Chinese martial arts, and are especially prevalent in the advanced training of what are known as the Neijia, or internal martial arts where the object is the full mobilization and proper coordination and direction of the energies of the body as they are applied to facilitate all physical actions.
24 Postures Therapeutic Chi Kung
Therapeutic Qigong includes 24 easy to learn, yet effective, traditional Chinese Qigong methods for physical therapy. These 24 methods are based on the thousands of years of effective therapeutic methods used in ancient China.
The design of the series of postures follows the human spine and the nervous system. The series can be divided in three sections, the first one is used for treating neck, shoulder and upper body, the second section focuses on the middle part, the waist and lower back and the third section focuses on the knees and ankle joints. The complete set works on all the joints in the body. The 24 postures are also used for rehabilitation from chronic illnesses such as arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, Parkinson's and Parkinson's related syndromes.
Regular practice can also reduce stress and tension, and regulate normal bodily functions, and strengthen the body.
Therapeutic Qigong exercises were created by Dr. Wang, Ziping (1881-1973) and systematized by his son-in-law, Dr. Wu, Chengde and later by his granddaughter Master Helen Wu. These exercises were based on ancient Qigong exercises and Dr. Wang's decades of clinical experiences. For over four decades since it was compiled, hundreds of thousands of people all over the world have benefited from it.
